Hyderabad, Oct. 19: Apart from their demand for the release of political prisoners and redistribution of land to the poor, the Naxal leaders on Tuesday asked the government to act on a bunch of petitions they got from people during their stay in the city. Ramakrishna, secretary of the CPI-Maoists, said the Naxals had got over 650 petitions from people. “We want the government to look into them,” he said. “They deal with basic issues.” The petitions deal with a range of problems including marital discord, harassment by political leaders and fin-anciers and land grabbing.
Sources in the Naxal camp said the petitions would be handed over to officials during the next round of negotiations between the government and the Naxals. People from various parts of the St-ate sought justice from the Naxalite leaders. Ramulu of Ghanpur mandal in Warangal district sought the annalu’s assistance to get back 20 guntas of land he purchased from a widow. The widow had died and her relatives had taken possession of the land, he alleged. K Laxminarayana of Bhoodan Pochampally complained that his younger brother was tortured by cops who falsely implicated him in a theft case.
People from the twin cities also submitted petitions. Many of them were related to land grabbing. Referring to the phenomenon, former DGP M V Bhaskar Rao said people looked for instant justice. “The government should take note of these developments and strengthen the delivery system,” he said.
