Warangal, Nov. 21: Taking serious note of the spate of unsavoury incidents at the central prison here, Endowments Minister M Satyanarayana Rao, who is also the district in-charge Minister, and Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah inspected the jail on Sunday morning.
They went round all the barracks of the Central Prison and enquired about the conditions with prisoners and officials at the jail. The Ministers expressed satisfaction about prevailing conditions at the jail. “No prisoner complained of serious irregularities in the affairs of the jail, as expressed by the three prisoners who tried to commit suicide twice in protest against harassment by jail authorities,” Satyanarayana Rao said.
The Endowments Minister said that he would also interact with the three prisoners — B Ravi, Md Yakub and B Venkat Reddy — who were shifted to Hyderabad after their suicide attempt, and find out the real reasons for their suicide attempts.
As the Ministers’ interaction with media personnel was in progress, two other prisoners — V P Swamy and Tirupathi — came and complained that efforts were on to kill them by injecting slow poison injections. The Major Irrigation Minister got irritated when the prisoners complained that jail authorities were extending their conviction period. “This is ridiculous.
How on earth is it possible for a jailer to extend the conviction period without instructions from the judiciary?” he asked. Jail Superintendent Ravi Nars-imha Reddy alleged that the two prisoners were followers of the three notorious criminals who were shifted to Hyderabad.
