`What about Rayalaseema?'

KURNOOL, NOV. 27. Leaders of the Rayalaseema Hakkula Ikya Vedika have decided to meet the Prime Minister in January to impress upon him the need for bringing the Rayalaseema issue under the purview of the sub-committee which will go into the demand for separate Telangana.

The Vedika president, T.G. Venkatesh, told presspersons here on Saturday that the Centre should have thought of Rayalaseema region before announcing the panel. He said Rayalaseema region had made great sacrifices for the cause of unified Andhra Pradesh by allowing the capital to be shifted to Hyderabad, losing many Rayalaseema areas to Karnataka and sacrificing Krishna water to Coastal Andhra. Rayalaseema would be left in the lurch if the State were divided.

`Pay compensation'

Asserting that they were not against separate Telangana, Mr. Venkatesh said Rayalaseema should be paid a compensation of Rs. 50,000 crores for rebuilding its resources.

He said Rayalaseema region should not be ignored as it with parts of Prakasam, Nellore and Mahabubnagar would be large enough to dictate electoral politics. Mr. Venkatesh said they were not against the Pulichintala project which would stabilise Krishna delta and relieve the pressure on the Krishna.
