Congress seeks TDP support

HYDERABAD, NOV. 29. The Government is mounting pressure on the Centre for securing clearance for all pending irrigation projects immediately for early completion of projects. It has already asked its Special Representative at New Delhi, Mallu Ravi, to speed up the process.

The Congress Legislature Party is planning to move a resolution in the forthcoming Assembly session in this regard. It has urged the Opposition to support the move provided it was interested in the development of the State instead of playing cheap politics.

Three Ministers -- J.C. Diwakar Reddy, P. Lakshmaiah and N. Raghuveera Reddy -- and the Chief Whip, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, told reporters on Monday that the Government was prepared to take everyone into confidence in the matter.

Debate in House

As the Government's intent was being distorted in the media they preferred a serious debate in the Assembly. An open debate elsewhere would serve no purpose, they said.

The CLP was for inclusion of the debate on tenders in the business of the House to clear the air of the misgivings if any. The Government was volunteering the move because it was confident that it had done no wrong deliberately in the controversy.

They said the Opposition had distorted the court ruling which had not faulted the system adopted by the Irrigation Department but had only asked it to extend the gamut to eligibility to more companies.
