MIM seeks special package for Telangana

HYDERABAD, FEB. 21. Akbaruddin Owaisi, MIM floor leader, on Monday sought revival of regional development boards and a separate financial package for Telangana.

Participating in the debate on the motion of thanks on the Governor's address in the Assembly, Mr. Owaisi said the Government did pretty little for farmers' welfare to match its tall claims. About 2,000 farmers had committed suicide after the Congress returned to power and free power supply was diluted.

He demanded 20 per cent quota for Muslims in urban housing schemes and additional residential schools. He pleaded for a probe into how the Wakf land on which Viceroy Hotel came up was alienated by the previous regime and for continuation of talks with naxalites.

G. Mukunda Reddy (TRS) spoke of the `umpteen' violations of the GO 610 as mentioned in the Girglani report and demanded formation of Telangana state to undo the injustice heaped on the people of the region.

BJP's charge
G. Kishen Reddy (BJP) said the Congress had thrown its poll manifesto to winds. The misery of farmers was continuing with eight suicides on average in a daily.

K. Ramulu (Janata Party) sought formation of Metpalli district carving out of Karimnagar and demanded resignation of the Technical Education Minister for not clearing the engineering college proposed there.

L. Raja Rao (BSP) was sceptical about the proposal for forming Tribal Battalion with tribal youths and doubted if this was a plan to pit tribals against extremists. D.K. Aruna (Samajwadi Party) demanded one lakh agriculture power connections per year and complimented the Government for undertaking heart surgeries on children.
