BJP rules out alliance with TRS

VIJAYAWADA May 23 2005: The BJP State unit is apparently dissociating itself with the TDP in the wake of the `utterances' of the latter's president, N. Chandrababu Naidu. Lending credence to this, the BJP State president, N. Indrasena Reddy, said here on Sunday that the BJP had worked with many parties, including the Left, and the TDP was one such party with which the BJP had a poll alliance in the last elections.

"The TDP president clearly stated that the TDP and the BJP are not allies," he pointed out.

Fielding a volley of questions at a press conference, Mr. Reddy said that the party was demanding the formation of smaller States, including carving out of Telangana. He, however, ruled out the possibility of working with the TRS.

To a query on film actress Vijayasanti's decision to fight for Telangana, he said the BJP had no objection to her decision. For, the BJP had been favouring the cause of smaller States and Ms. Vijayasanti was propagating the party stand.

To a query on whether the BJP would have a truck with the TDP in the coming municipal elections, he said that district units of the BJP had been empowered to make a decision on the alliance at local level.

He said that the BJP wanted to strengthen its base on its own in every town and village by contesting independently.

However, if the local leadership preferred alliance with anybody depending on the local circumstances, the party leadership would not object it, he clarified.
